-Virginia Thomas Scott Fischer has spent nearly 40 years of his 45-year career working at Coeur d’Alene-based Architects West Inc. In that time, he’s been involved with dozens of projects in North Idaho and Eastern Washington and rose to become president of the company’s board of directors. Now, Fischer is downsizing his responsibilities as he moves toward retirement within the next couple of years. As of May 2, Fischer, age 66, is working at Architects West part time. Fischer, the child of an Air Force sergeant, was born in Alaska before moving around the country as his father’s career dictated. In 1967, Fischer’s family moved to Coeur d’Alene. Except for the years he spent earning his architecture degree at the University of Idaho, he’s never left.
Architects West has a new board of directors. Scott Fischer, board member and past president, stepped down as part of his transition toward retirement. He has been with the firm for 40 years and plans to continue working part-time supporting staff members on their projects until he retires. The new board includes Keith Dixon, Kevin Cole, Marcus Valentine, Steve Roth and Ed Champagne, who now serves as president. Employee-owned Architects West provides architectural and landscape architectural/land planning services, with offices in Spokane and Coeur d Alene, Idaho.

Puppeteer Gabriel Quirk, back on the renaissance festival circuit after a year of plague, talks about his life in the performing arts

For Gabriel Quirk performance art has always been a way of life, from working at a renaissance festival in upstate New York as a teenager, to his days on the streets of San Francisco with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to now, when he is back on the renfaire circuit as Sir Real the Puppet Man. Through the end of May, Quirk will be strolling the lanes of Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, delighting visitors with his imaginative and intricately-detailed puppets from the “humanette” Baby to his Venetian gondola. This week, he took time to answer a few questions about his life and his art for Dallas Voice.
