10 injured in nitrogen explosion at Dippin Dots facility in western Kentucky Ayana Archie, Louisville Courier Journal
Ten people were injured Wednesday afternoon after a nitrogen explosion at a Dippin Dots facility in Paducah, Kentucky, the company said.
Officials are not yet sure what exactly led to the explosion about 3:45 p.m. Central time, but liquid nitrogen was being unloaded at the plant on Industrial Drive. The plant is used to make ingredients for a third party and not ice cream, according to the company.
Nine of the 10 injured were released from the hospital by Thursday, while one employee continues to recover, Dippin Dots spokesperson Billie Stuber said in a statement.

The explosion took place Wednesday at a Dippin Dots-owned facility on Industrial Drive in Paducah. The site is not where the ice cream is made, but where ingredients for a third-party company are produced, officials said.
A truck was unloading liquid nitrogen when the eruption took place, but it s unclear exactly what caused the explosion, Paducah police spokeswoman Robin Newberry said to local ABC Kentucky affiliate WPSD Wednesday.
The 10 injured people were taken to two local hospitals, Newberry said.
Dippin Dots, which is headquartered in Paducah, told ABC News: This is a terrible accident . At this moment, our focus is on the well-being of our fellow employees who were injured.
