UTICA, N.Y. Utica firefighters responded to a house fire on Steuben Street Tuesday evening.
Calls came in just before 7:00 p.m. Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll tells NEWSChannel 2 the fire started on the second floor of the apartment house. There was heavy smoke damage to the unoccupied second floor. The chief says the family in the first floor apartment was going to receive help from the Red Cross. Power had to be cut to the home so it was not liveable.
Residents of the Historical Park Apartments were evacuated Thursday afternoon after they started feeling an itchy, burning sensation in their throat and eyes, Utica fire officials said.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews responded at 2:08 p.m. to the 11-story building at 100 Rutger St., located just east of downtown Utica.
As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, city fire Chief Scott Ingersoll said one person was sent to a local hospital and emergency crews still were trying to find the source of the irritant.
On Friday morning, Ingersoll said no source of irritant had been found after the building was checked multiple times with different meters.
