Contacts with Power Lines on the Rise

By Kristi Golden Apr 26, 2021 9:14 PM SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) – Sioux Valley Energy has seen a rise in contact with power lines. There were 4 last Thursday, 1 on Friday, 1 on Saturday, and another on Sunday.  No one was injured, but the utility reminds folks to be careful and look up when working with large equipment or call 811 before you dig to locate underground utility lines. Terry Ebright, safety coordinator for Sioux Valley Energy says even one contact can be too many “anytime you come in contact with an electrical line, whether it’s above ground or underground – there is a risk of injury or even death.”

Dakota News Now is reporting the power blackouts experienced on Tuesday (February 16) by many residents throughout the eastern half of South Dakota were lasting between 30 and 90 minutes in most cases. Energy providers are strongly encouraging people to once again conserve and limit energy usage when possible to help ease the burden being placed on power grids at this time. Get our free mobile app
