Plans for new toddler-friendly playground in Ulverston

FUNDING has been approved to create an inclusive and toddler-friendly playground in Ulverston. Families in the town and surrounding areas are set to enjoy a new playground at Ford Park thanks to a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation and a generous contribution from Coordination Group Publication (CGP). For a long time, registered charity Ford Park Community Group has wanted to update and replace the playground with one that is truly inclusive and provides play opportunities for toddlers too. This has been echoed by comments and suggestions from many local families and school children. The money will be used to buy play equipment to completely replace the existing playground.

It s not the right time to discuss pedestrianising the town centre

Councillor Colin Pickthall raised the controversial idea at Ulverston Town Council s meeting on Monday. He said it was not to debate the pros and cons of cleaner air and business impacts , but to ask council members if they could agree to writing a letter to Cumbria County Council to ask them to conduct a survey on the issue. He said it was important to see a council representative addressing the people of the town on the issue and give residents the chance to offer their opinions. Conclusion could then be drawn from the consultation, Cllr Pickthall said. He admitted to the meeting the issue had been raised umpteen times before but believed that the public were raising this for a reason.
