LOCAL fishermen leaders have expressed their âhuge disappointmentâ and have vowed to âfight onâ after the finer details of the post-Brexit trade deal became clearer over the Christmas period.
Simon Collins of the Shetland Fishermenâs Association (SFA) stopped short of using the word âbetrayalâ and instead chose his words more diplomatically when he spoke of a âsense of huge disappointmentâ, saying that politicians should have done better in delivering some of the promises made.

The Brexit deal, voted through the Commons on Wednesday by a huge majority, does not restore sovereign UK control over fisheries, and does not permit the UK to determine who can catch what, where and when the UKâs exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
SHETLAND Fishermen’s Association (SFA) has a new chairman.
Alison Kay skipper James Anderson, who has chaired the organisation briefly in the past, is replacing Leslie Tait.
Tait, who has spent 13 years in the role, will now be honorary president. He will also stand down from his role as vice-president of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation in August.
SFA executive officer Simon Collins said: “We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Leslie, whose knowledge and insight has been invaluable during his tenure.
“James is a fisherman of vast experience and will be an excellent chair of the association as we move into a new era for the industry.”
