BIhar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said that speculations of a split in his party Janata Dal (United) were “baseless” and lacked any substance, PTI reported. Kumar’s comment came a day after Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Shyam Rajak claimed that 17 MLAs of the JD(U) were in touch with them and ready to join the party.
“Since we do not want to violate anti-defection law, we have told them that we will welcome them only when they come in a group of 28 MLAs,” Rajak told ANI. “Their strength will grow to 28 very soon.”

RJD seeks to fish in troubled NDA waters in Bihar, claims 17 JDU MLAs willing to cross over
Defection of JD(U) MLAs to the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh and the resultant cold vibes between the partners in the ruling coalition in Bihar, seem to have kindled fresh hopes in the RJD which has ended up heading the opposition here despite being the single largest party. Shyam Rajak, a former national general secretary of the JD(U) who joined RJD shortly before the recent assembly elections, on Wednesday sought to fish in the troubled waters with the claim that 17 MLAs of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar s party were willing to cross over.

The opposition RJDs claim of an impending split in the ruling Janata Dal (United) in Bihar on Wednesday met with an outright rebuttal by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, its de facto leader. Baseless and lacking any substance was how Kumar described the claim made by Shyam Rajak, a former member of his cabinet who had joined the RJD ahead of the recent assembly polls.
Rajak, who switched sides upon expulsion from the JD(U) for anti-party activities, had claimed earlier in the day that 17 MLAs of Kumars party, more than a third of its strength in the assembly, were willing to join the RJD.
