Kapil Gujjar, who fired bullets in the air near Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area, the epicentre of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest, and his father are members of the Aam Aadmi Party who has joined it last year, said the Delhi Crime Branch on Tuesday.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh condemned the shooting at Shaheen Bagh and alleged that the BJP is planning to create a "big disturbance" in Delhi to postpone February 8 Assembly elections as it could sense the defeat.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has directed Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to ensure outsiders and suspicious characters are frisked before they can access the Shaheen Bagh protest site.
The Election Commission shunted DCP (south-east) Chinmoy Biswal, citing "ongoing situation" in area, which saw two firing incidents outside Jamia Millia Islamia University near Shaheen Bagh in three days.
