WILMINGTON — It’s been less than a week since Café Chinois — the latest eatery from the Indochine restaurant group — opened its doors to the public. Yet, its expansion is already on the horizon, according to owner Solange “Niki” Thompson and her daughter Marie Bartsch, who oversee the restaurants, along with director of operations Kathy Long. “It’s in a strip mall, so you’re limited where you can go,” Bartsch said, speaking of Chinois’ location in the former Southern Thai space (3715 Patriot Way) in Fulton Station. “So, Mom’s taking over the driving school next door soon.”

Combined food hall and music venue slated to open in Greenfield Lake area by end of 2022

The National Linen Service Building at 1315 S. Fifth Ave. will become Seaboard Social Hall, a 43,000 square-foot space that will house a food hall and indoor music venue. (Port City Daily/Shea Carver) WILMINGTON The Southside of downtown will be getting tastier and more cultured when a 43,000-square-foot building transforms into Seaboard Social Hall. The business will be the first of its kind in Wilmington, combining a food hall and indoor music venue at the National Linen Service Building (1315 S. Fifth Ave.), located across from blues venue The Rusty Nail.  Monarch Property Co. developer Jason Queen, co-owner of Raleigh’s Transfer Co. Food Hall, is behind the $15-$20 million project. Queen told Port City Daily multiple investors are involved in the business model, which will add around 100 jobs locally and continue forth with revitalization of the Greenfield Lake area.

ILM aims to expand nonstop service to New York, Boston

Wilmington International Airport is eyeing new nonstop routes to New York or Boston. (Port City Daily photo/Shea Carver) WILMINGTON –– Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is striving to offer new daily nonstop routes to popular northeast destinations by 2025 with the help of a hefty federal grant and local backing. In a presentation to Wilmington City Council Monday, ILM director Julie Wilsey explained why she hopes the city will incorporate funding in its upcoming budget to support a grant for the project. In March the airport applied for the U.S Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Small Community Air Service Development Program grant, which aims to connect small hubs to business markets. ILM is requesting $840,500 from USDOT and received pledges totaling $159,500 from local government bodies, private companies and economic development agencies for the new route.
