To everything there is a season, and summer in Madison in recent (non-pandemic) years has included a season for your face to hurt from laughing. Madison Comedy Week returns in 2021 bigger and better than ever, with almost 30 events over eight evenings at The Bur Oak, The Rigby and several other venues (including headliners Kevin Bozeman and Mary Mack at the Pursuit of Happiness Session at McPike Park on Aug. 6-7). Highlights during the first half of the week (at The Bur Oak) include the now-traditional âMadison Comedy Awardsâ ceremony (at 9 p.m. Sunday), and both Fresh Faces (7 p.m.) and Seasoned Vets (9 p.m.) showcases on Tuesday.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Mothers Against Drunk Driving will host a 5K to raise awareness of impaired driving.
Wabash Valley residents David and Dawn Vasquez worked alongside MADD to organize the event.
The couple lost their son, Shawn Vasquez, to a drunk driver last July.
“A lot of people in town knew Shawn and he knew everybody too. If he knew you, you were his friend. He was a larger than life kid that loved to live life to the fullest,” says Dawn Vasquez.
The event will be in Shawn’s memory. As the Vasquez family remembers their lost loved one, they hope that no other family goes through a similar pain.

Laughing Liberally Milwaukee had been tweaking reactionaries and making sport of right-wing nitwits in comedy clubs for several years before going virtual (and adding a
Shepherd Express podcast) during the pandemic. They recently mounted a virtual variety program to mark the demise of Trump called the âDelouse the White House Inauguration Show.â They are returning with another virtual show, the âPan-niverary Extravaganza,â to coincide with the anniversary of COVIDâs arrival in Wisconsin.
The lineup for âPan-niversaryâ will include standup comedy from Chastity Washington, Shawn Vasquez, Dana Ehrmann and the Accountants of Homeland Security plus an activist interview with Santera Michaels from Black and Pink Milwaukee, an organization supporting LGBTQ incarcerated people in Wisconsin.
