By DeSherion McBroom Jul 24, 2021 | 7:16 PM TERRE HUATE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) Mothers Against Drunk Drivers work to raise awareness on a 100 percent preventable cause of death. For many families the act of driving under the influence has broken their lives into pieces. Mothers Against Drunk Driving is an organization that works to support victims families and those who have lost their loved ones. For one family, July 25 marks one year since they lost their son to a drunk driver, they say he loved helping others. “For us number one we want to keep his memory alive,” Dawn Vasquez, MADD volunteer. “Number two we want to make this a place, a world with no more victims. We want to bring awareness and make people understand it won’t happen to me, can happen to you.”

Mothers Against Drunk Driving to host 5K walk to raise awareness of impaired driving

By Local News | MyWabashValley.com Jul 8, 2021 | 6:12 PM TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Mothers Against Drunk Driving will host a 5K to raise awareness of impaired driving. Wabash Valley residents David and Dawn Vasquez worked alongside MADD to organize the event. The couple lost their son, Shawn Vasquez, to a drunk driver last July. “A lot of people in town knew Shawn and he knew everybody too. If he knew you, you were his friend. He was a larger than life kid that loved to live life to the fullest,” says Dawn Vasquez. The event will be in Shawn’s memory. As the Vasquez family remembers their lost loved one, they hope that no other family goes through a similar pain.
