One may quarrel with the ideas of prominent political figures even when these are published only after their death in keeping with the embargo they placed on their writing being made public. But this does not seem necessary in the case of the late Pranab Mukherjee, whose long career in politics during much of which he held high executive positions was capped by his elevation to the office of President (2012-17).

New Delhi, Jan 26 (PTI) Envoys and embassies of several nations on Tuesday wished India on its Republic Day and hailed their ties with the country.
In a tweet, French envoy to India Emmaneul Lenain said, Warmest greetings to the people of India on 72nd Republic Day! In these times of pandemic, the world has truly seen India’s resilience, generosity and solidarity. As India’s strategic partner, France is keen to spearhead the response to global challenges together, he said.

The iconic Mahatma Gandhi statue at parliament has been temporarily moved to make way for construction of the new Parliament building.
The 16-foot statue, near the main entrance, was coming in the way of construction work and had to be shifted, Lok Sabha officials said. It has been moved to a spot between Gate No. 2 and 3 until the new building is ready.
The statue was a familiar backdrop to opposition protests and also a meeting point for parliamentarians. Last year, a group of MPs spent a night at the spot in protest against the manner three farm laws were rushed through parliament.
