2020: A year to savour for Bangladesh cricket amid pandemic

DHAKA, Dec 29, 2020 (BSS) -The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic ate up the most of cricket season of Bangladesh in 2020, a year which was set to be an “epic year” for them.
Bangladesh was scheduled to play a whopping amount of Test matches, for which they were always craving for. But they ended up playing only two Tests due to the pandemic-induced break as the cricket around the world experienced an unprecedented scenario almost throughout the year. Still there are some highs and lows.
Winning the Under-19 World Cup was a landmark achievement for Bangladesh cricket that made the year something to savour amid the COVID-19 mayhem.
Injured Tigers expected to recover before Test series

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials said on Monday that they are confident that they will be able to avail the service of injured Test trio, Mominul Haque, Nayeem Hasan and Abu Jayed Rahi, in the practice game ahead of the upcoming West Indies Series.
West Indies are due to arrive on January 10 to play three one-day Internationals and two Tests while they are expected to play a four-day practice match from January 28 in Chattogram ahead of the Test series after completing the 50-over fixture.
Bangladesh are expected to announce the squad for the series before the national training camp scheduled from January 7.

DHAKA, De 14, 2020 (BSS) Beximco Dhaka kept the hope of playing the final of Bangabandhu T20 Cup alive after they recorded a nine-run victory over Fortune Barishal in the Eliminator game at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Dhaka will now play the second Qualifier tomorrow (Tuesday) against the loser of the first Qualifier, which will be held between between Gemcon Khulna and Gazi Group Chattogram later today.
Standing on an equation of being eliminated from the final race should they loss the Eliminator, Dhaka brought up a spirited game despite fumbling several times in fielding.

DHAKA, Dec 14, 2020 (BSS) Gemcon Khulna stalwarts came all guns blazing when it mattered most as they steered the side to the final of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup in first attempt.
Due to the combined effort of Jahurul Islam, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan and captain Mahmudullah Riyad, Gemcon Khulna secured a 47-run win over the most consistent side of the tournament Gazi Group Chattogram in the first Qualifier game at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Chattogram beat Khulna twice in the group phase and registered seven victories out of eight.
