New Delhi, April 12: While inaugurating the first Water Sports Centre adopted by his Ministry in Kashmir last week, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju announced that the Government of India was developing as many as 100 Khelo India Centres across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. An amount of Rs 513 crore has been earmarked in the current years budget for promotion of sports in addition to the substantial financial assistance flowing from the Centre.

In the third such visit by foreign envoys to Jammu and Kashmir in the last 18 months, diplomats from 24 countries completed a two-day trip to the union territory to assess the ground situation.
The envoys will be meeting several delegations comprising civil society members, District Development Council members and political leaders in Jammu. The delegation will leave for New Delhi in the evening

They are here, according to government officials, to have a first-hand account of the situation, especially after the recently-concluded local body elections.
Soon after landing at Srinagar Airport, the delegation was accorded a traditional welcome with a group of girls singing traditional Kashmiri songs, including Wanwun amid showering of flower petals.
The envoys, which has representation from six OIC countries Malaysia, Bangladesh, Senegal Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan were taken to Magam in central Kashmir amid heightened security arrangements in the city and elsewhere in the Valley, officials said here.
