ROCKFORD Rockford City Market will return downtown for its 12th season with more vendors and a larger footprint than ever before.
The annual outdoor event featuring local businesses and creators will welcome patrons back to 116 N. Madison St. on May 21.
On Friday, Rockford City Market and Rock River Development Partnership representatives held a news conference to discuss what s new this year and how the market plans to rebound after the pandemic caused last year s attendance to drop to about a quarter of what it was in 2019.
On opening day this year, patrons can expect to see 54 vendors ranging from restaurants and local farmers to crafters and retailers. There eventually will be 59 vendors, and 61% or 35 vendors are either owned by minorities or women.

Attempted murder charges laid after pedestrians deliberately hit at Broken Hill
A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly deliberately driving at and hitting two pedestrians in the state’s Far West last month.
About 8.45pm on Tuesday 30 March 2021, emergency services responded to reports two men had been hit by a car while walking along the footpath on Lane Street, Broken Hill.
The men, aged 19 and 49, were treated at the scene before being conveyed to Broken Hill Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The older man was later transferred to Royal Adelaide Hospital where he remains with serious head injuries.

A teenager is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly deliberately driving into two pedestrians in the state’s far west.
Emergency services were called to Lane Street, Broken Hill about 8.45pm on March 30 to reports two men, aged 19 and 49, had been hit by a car while walking along the footpath.
Both pedestrians were taken to Broken Hill Hospital in a serious but stable condition. NSW Police on Friday said the older man was transferred to Royal Adelaide Hospital where he remains with serious head injuries.
The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, was arrested at the police station a short time after the crash but released pending further inquiries.

The business marketing software firm will expand its East Coast headquarters by moving into 226,000 square feet at 275 Wyman St. in Waltham, the buildingâs owner, Hobbs Brook Real Estate, said Wednesday. The deal is the second-largest office lease signed so far this year in the region, behind only Amazonâs lease of a building in the Seaport District. It comes as office markets are gradually beginning to thaw as the region recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
