Two big facelifts coming this year for the Dahl Drive area. Construction season is here! The area around Dahl Drive will be the site of continued activity through the spring, summer, and fall months as crews work on updating the water system. And, great news, the roadway will also see updates! On April 13, Whitecourt Town Council approved the final phase of the Water System Upgrades Project. Split up into three steps; the project will see the water system significantly updated. An unexpected invoice from the Provincial Government for RCMP lab services sees pushback from Whitecourt Town Council During the Monday, March 22, Regular Meeting of Council, a unique topic brought about many discussions. Town of Whitecourt administration received a bill in the mail from the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General concerning implementing a chargeback model for the provincial portion of the Biology Casework Analysis Agreements expenses. The bill, for $22,691.66, came entirely out of the blue. Town of Whitecourt CAO Peter Smyl explained that a review had taken place and that the bill was apparently for casework done at the Whitecourt RCMP Detachment. However, the letter did not explain the bill’s costs, leaving everyone wondering what each dollar is for. “We’ve requested the details to make sure that we understand what the amount represents.” He said that they were communicating with the Association of Urban Municipalities of Alberta (AUMA), who ad

FCSS grant funding recently passed by council During the February 22 Whitecourt Town Council meeting, council discussed the Family & Community Support Services Grant Program (FCSS). Each year, groups and organizations apply to receive funding through the program and, following a thorough evaluation of each application, the Community Services Board provides a recommendation to council. FCSS Manager Sharon Shannon explained that the FCSS organization’s goal is to enhance the social well-being of individuals, families, and the community through prevention. “The FCSS grant is an annual grant that provides financial support to community organizations and groups who are striving to address community and social needs,” explained Shannon. This year’s 2021 interim town budget includes $50,000 for supporting groups through the FCSS grant. “This grant is unique. It can be used to support one-time projects and be used for annual operations for organizations and groups. C
