“Having a dedicated water supply will allow for the airport to expand and attract new business,” said Alanna Hnatiw, Sturgeon County’s mayor, at Thursday’s announcement. “It will allow the current tenants the opportunity to plan and expand their own business and it will allow Sturgeon County to move forward with plans to develop the land surrounding the airport.”

Ground has officially broken on the 40
th Ave. partial interchange in Airdrie after a ceremony including City council, administration and MLAs Angela Pitt and Ric McIver commemorated the start of development on Wednesday, Apr. 28.
The $83-million project will see a new overpass and three new bridges on the south end of Airdrie, crossing over Main Street, the CP Rail, Nose Creek and the QEII Highway, and connecting 40
th Ave. to Sharp Hill Way SE.

The City of Airdrie is partnering with EllisDon Construction Services Inc. and Alberta Transportation to see the project through.

The Cold Lake summer construction season will be a busy one as the city has committed over $4 million to roadway and trail improvements that are set to begin soon.
There are seven roads selected to receive resurfacing: 55 Street (55 Avenue to 27 Avenue); 51 Avenue (49 Street to 51 Street); 50 Avenue (38 Street to 41 Street); 58 Street (47 Avenue to 48 Avenue); 19 Street (7 Avenue to Ptarmigan Crescent); and 5 Avenue (16 Street to 18 Street).

The project will cost the city $2.2 million from its capital road improvement program, and the contract for the roadway improvements was awarded to E Construction of Cold Lake.
