A trial will take place in May, after a senior Isle of Wight NHS official and an Island GP appeared in court, where they denied accepting more than £75,000 between them in bribes. An Isle of Wight businessman is charged alongside the pair. They are accused of promoting specific drug companies and their products to GPs, the Daily Telegraph reported. Paul Jerram, 67, from Shanklin, formerly head of medicines management for the Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), denies eight separate offences, dating back to 2011. They are related to bribery and ‘improper performance of his functions’ as an NHS worker.
More sites will then follow, to provide a network of clinics across the county. Dr Michele Legg, GP and clinical chair of NHS Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “All of our sites that started vaccinating patients across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight earlier this week have had a great start with clinics running smoothly. “We’ve heard lots of positive feedback from patients and staff, which has been lovely to hear as everyone is working incredibly hard on this huge task. Nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and other NHS staff will work alongside GPs to vaccinate those aged 80 and over, as well as care home workers and residents, identified as priority groups for the life-saving vaccine.
