Councillor Steve Hastings Confirmed Conservative Party Leader On Isle Of Wight

Councillor Steve Hastings has been confirmed as the new leader of the Isle of Wight Conservative Party.

Sources close to Isle of Wight Radio say there were no challengers to the top job in the party at last night s internal meeting (Friday).
As first reported by Isle of Wight Radio, Cllr Hastings, who has been on the Isle of Wight Council for four years and represents the Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet ward - was made acting interim leader of the Isle of Wight Council after the election.

Isle Of Wight Council Leader Loses Seat To Green Party Candidate

Conservative Isle of Wight Council leader Dave Stewart has lost his seat to an Isle of Wight Green Party candidate.
Claire Critchison, the only other candidate standing in the Chale, Niton and Shorwell ward, has claimed victory, it’s understood.
The results are only provisional and no final declaration has yet been made.
Mr Stewart has held a place on the Isle of Wight Council since 2010.

Students from the Isle of Wight College and Platform One, College of Music have been working alongside People Media Productions to film very short messages from candidates standing at the Island’s local elections on Thursday 6th May.
Prospective candidates from each party were invited last week to the AAA Live studio in Merstone to deliver the essence of their vision for the Island over the coming years. The punchy videos (see below) are being shared widely across social media and the studios are run by Technical Director at AAA Live, Martin Hall.

Three Isle of Wight 2021 election candidates were unexpectedly reunited when a Green Party Zoom call for candidates revealed that they had already met – over twenty years ago at school.
Claire Critchison (Chale, Niton and Shorwell) and Jaimie Bundell (Newport West) were pleased to discover that David Moorse (Shanklin Central) – better known as Mr Moorse to an estimated 4,000 Island children through the years – was also standing for election to the Isle of Wight Council on Thursday 6th May.

During the 2019 General Election the message that came from Island Conservatives was that the only choice for voters was Conservative versus Labour.
A year or so later this message has appeared again, this time in the 2021 Isle of Wight council elections.
