7-year-old girl shot and critically wounded in Northeast DC

It happened just before 7 p.m. in 3500 block of Jay Street. The girl was shot in the chest while riding a scooter outside an apartment complex with family members, according to Executive Assistant Chief of Police Ashan M. Benedict during a news conference. She suffered a gun shot wound and was transported by members of D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a hospital for life-threatening injuries, where she remains in critical condition. D.C. police said the child is the only known victim and the shooting “appears to be random, but the investigation is ongoing.” Police detectives said they are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a white sedan. The vehicle “of interest” is tied to the Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun) offense.

(Enterprise photo — Andy Flynn) LAKE PLACID After taking the weekend off, construction crews upgrading Main Street plan to continue their excavation of the water main from Monday to Friday, according to Haley Breen, community development director for the town of North Elba and village of Lake Placid. Crews expect to install 100 feet of 16-inch water line each day, working from the north end of the village. They will pressure-test and disinfect the new water line from Saranac Avenue to Hayes Street and will begin connecting services to each building in that area once test results are approved.

April 1 Dustin Jay Knutson, 41, of Newberg, was arrested for fourth-degree assault and harassment. Bail was set at $25,000 and the case remains open. April 4 Ky Ramsey Schaad, 21, of Newberg, was arrested for reckless driving. He was booked and released; the case is pending. April 6 Adrian Pereda Perez, 50, of Newberg, was arrested for fourth-degree assault and probation violation. No bail was set and he received an undisclosed sentence on the charge.
