Roselle considering whether to allow marijuana sales in the village
Updated 5/25/2021 4:49 PM
Roselle trustees are exploring the possibility of allowing recreational marijuana businesses after voters showed support for the idea.
The village board on Monday night talked about lifting Roselle s ban on adult-use marijuana businesses, which has been in place since 2019. A final decision by the board could be made by September.
Before the decision is made, the issue will be examined by trustees and members of the planning and zoning commission. Public meetings also will be held.
The discussion comes after voters approved two cannabis-related questions on the April ballot.

Roselle will cover as much as half the cost, up to $3,000, of homeowners projects to reduce flooding on their property after rainfall.
Eligible projects can include regrading the yard to direct stormwater away from the house, installing a private storm sewer using gravity or a pump to move water, or installation of a rain garden designed to absorb water.
Trustee Wayne Domke said the Yard Flooding Assistance Program needs to be publicized more to residents and needs more money than the roughly $25,000 budgeted for it.

Roselle officials discuss new ways to attract and keep businesses
Updated 2/5/2021 2:51 PM
Roselle officials are talking about offering grants to promote economic development in certain parts of the town.
The village board recently reviewed a proposal to create grant programs for new and existing businesses in Roselle s three tax increment financing districts.
In a TIF district, as redevelopment boosts property values, the extra tax revenue that otherwise would go to taxing bodies can be used to pay for improvements to the area for up to 23 years.
Roselle could use TIF money to establish up to four grant programs. The board is expected to continue its discussion on the idea in March.

With the Metro 19 apartment complex ready to start development in the spring, some Roselle residents have voiced concern about traffic and about demand for housing centered around train commutes.
The $80 million apartment complex was approved Jan. 11 and is set to open in 2022. Trustees say it fits into the village s comprehensive plan for enhancing the central part of town and increasing demand for restaurants, shops and other retailers in the village.
