SEATTLE (AP) Jarred Kelenic hit a two-run homer for his first major league hit and tacked on two doubles, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 7-3 win over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.
After going hitless in his big league debut Thursday, Kelenic brought the crowd to its feet with a drive to right-center against Aaron Civale in the third inning. The ball was clocked at 109.3 mph off the bat and Kelenic’s sprint around the bases seemed just as fast.

When the Texas Rangers began the 2021 season, manager Chris Woodward and the coaching staff decided to begin the season with not one, but two spots in the starting rotation employed by pitching tandems.
Barely a quarter of a way through the season, that idea has been shelved, or at least drastically altered. But the initial blueprint of one guy starting for three or four innings, followed by a piggyback starter to carry the team to the seventh or eighth inning is not being followed any longer. Yeah, it s changed a little bit, Woodward said on Friday. We knew that it was going to be a fluid situation.

That will not be the case in Houston.
The Rangers were walloped by the Astros on Friday night by a score of 10-4. Houston got to Rangers starter Wes Benjamin early, forcing him to leave the game after only 1 2/3 innings. Benjamin earned three runs, while Brett de Geus followed with four earned runs in just 1/3 inning.
In the two combined innings between Benjamin and de Geus, the pair walked five batters. That s something that manager Chris Woodward has very little patience for. It s something we harp on quite a bit, said Woodward. These guys aren t going to chase. When you don t attack these guys, they re gonna hurt you.
The Texas Rangers scored four runs and the Houston Astros scored ten runs.
After Wes Benjamin won the rotation spot vacated by an injured Kohei Arihara, the lefty couldn’t make it out of the second inning tonight in Houston as he allowed three runs before collecting a sixth out.
But then Brett de Geus allowed four runs in a third of an inning. And then starting candidate Hyeon-Jong Yang allowed three more runs in his four innings of worth. The trio of pitchers allowed a season-high tying eight free passes, as well. Taylor Hearn had to come in for a couple of scoreless innings to stop the bleeding.
