Outline plans for 100 new homes in Seaton decision

Picture: Google Streetview Outline plans for up to 100 new homes in Seaton are set to be decided on next week. Allerdale s development panel will next Tuesday decide whether to grant outline planning permission for the construction of up to 100 new homes on land to the east of Causeway Road in Seaton. Being an application for outline permission, submitted by trustees of the Copsey Family Trust, further, more detailed plans would have to be approved before construction could begin. However, the granting of outline permission would signal approval in principle of the prospect of up to 100 new homes being built on the site.

Fire crews called to help with flooding around North Yorkshire

FIRE crews have been called out to various incidents involving flooding around North Yorkshire throughout the night. At around 10.30pm, crews were called to Biggin, Selby to attend to water entering a premises. They used a main pump and assisted occupiers with setting up sand bags. At around 10.50pm, crews were on the scene of flooding in a premises in Little Fenton, Selby. They used a light portable pump and low strainer to remove the water. At around 11pm, crews were called to Castlegate, Malton to clear flood water from a premises. They used two light portable pumps to do so.

Jane Hutt MS supporting Dinas Powys residents following devastating floods DEPUTY Minister and Assembly Member for the Vale of Glamorgan, Jane Hutt, held a virtual meeting on Friday, January 8 to discuss last months flooding.  Joining her were the Chief Executive of NRW Clare Pillman, Welsh Water chiefs, Sully Moors businesses and residents of Dinas Powys, where they talked about responding to immediate needs of those devastated by the floods of December 23, and to discuss longer term actions for flood prevention and alleviation in Dinas Powys. Jane Hutt said: Since the devastating floods on 23rd December I have been working to support the people of Dinas Powys who were severely affected by the floods.

The northern Porirua suburb of Plimmerton was hit by heavy rain late last month, affecting 60 properties, leaving 30 with internal damage and 16 uninhabitable. A group of 45 locals, the Plimmerton Flood Action Group was formed to lobby Porirua City Council and Wellington Water for urgent action. They spoke to the council on Wednesday, the final council meeting of the year.

Flood expert Paul - a beacon of light

A FLOOD recovery expert known for his compassion and competence as he supported flood-stricken communities in Carlisle has died. Paul Hendy came to prominence in 2005 when, living in the city, he played a key part in helping victims of the floods He used his hard-won expertise - and his ability to empathise with victims - to set up the Scottish Flood Forum. As news of his death last week was announced yesterday, the number of tributes grew steadily. Mr Hendy was well known throughout the region for his work. After the 2005 floods in Carlisle, he worked to set up a community advice and support centre for the 3,500 flood victims in the city - part of what became a three year programme of community support. In 2009, he set up the Scottish Flood Forum, but for a time also sat on England’s National Flood Forum.
