An Oakland man suspected a series of armed robberies dove into San Francisco Bay while trying to escape authorities during a chase. The high-speed chase ended in flailing fashion after Webster Johnson, the assumed suspect in a string of local robberies abandoned his vehicle near I-80 and Ashby Avenue in Berkeley last week and jumped into the Bay before surrendering. Johnson is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, accessory, robbery, felony evading, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and assault with a deadly weapon. [KPIX]

An Oakland man wanted on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder led police on a chase through three Bay Area counties before jumping into San Francisco Bay in a futile attempt to avoid capture, authorities said.
Suspect in high-speed chase faces long list of allegations
VALLEJO The man who led law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase Wednesday down westbound Interstate 80 has been identified as an Oakland resident who was at “the center of several investigations that spanned three counties.”
Webster Johnson, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday, is suspected in crimes that occurred in Solano, Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
Johnson, 30, was booked into Solano County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, being an accessory to a crime, first-degree robbery, evading police with disregard for public safety, two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and six counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder, all felonies, along with suspected felony and misdemeanor probation violations.
