Stowe Cable building lit on fire for the second time in four months

A man intentionally set fire to the Stowe Cable building early this morning, according to police. It’s the second time the telecommunications company’s building was lit on fire in a little more than four months — and the latest in a series of suspicious fired in Stowe over the past five years. According to a report from Stowe Police Department, the fire at 172 Thomas Lane was started around 5:52 this morning, Jan. 7. Investigators asked for help identifying the suspect, who was seen allegedly setting the fire via security cameras. Police are asking for help identifying the man seen here, allegedly setting fire to Stowe Cable at 172 Thomas Lane just before 6 a.m. this morning, Jan. 7.

VSP: Fatal Newport fire ruled accidental

Wed, 12/30/2020 - 11:10am tim Vermont State Police On December 25, 2020 at approximately 9:15 PM a 911 call was received about a fire in an upstairs apartment at 58 Pleasant Street in Newport City. The Newport City Fire and Police Departments were on scene within 4 minutes and learned there was a male still inside the apartment.  Newport City Fire Fighters quickly extinguished the blaze, stopped the spread of the fire, and saved the rest of the apartment building. Unfortunately one of the occupants of the second floor apartment, Jonathan R. Coe (39) was unable to get out of the apartment and perished in the fire.

(AP) A fatal fire in a Newport apartment on Christmas night was caused by an unattended frying pan heating on a stove, Vermont state fire investigators said Wednesday. Jonathan Coe, 39, was unable to get out of the second-floor apartment and died in the fire, police said. Newport firefighters quickly put out the fire and stopped its spread, saving the rest of the building, fire investigators said. An autopsy determined that Coe suffered severe smoke inhalation and burns. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Newport City Police Department or Detective Sgt.
