The Planning Board, after a hearing this week, voted to recommend approval of the district, known as the “Main Street and Convention Center Overlay District.”

Dec 10, 2020 The Springfield Parking Authority has sold the Civic Center Garage for three-and-a-half-million dollars. The buyer is the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, which owns and operates the next-door MassMutual Center. Plans were announced Wednesday to tear down the 50-year-old garage and build a new one. “This is a strategic investment by the MCCA in the future of downtown Springfield,” said David Gibbons, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. “The MassMutual Center is a key economic driver for the city and region and the construction of a new garage adjacent to our venue will further enhance the recent major investments in the city.”
