Best Virginia cruises in exhibition opener in Beckley

Best Virginia cruises in exhibition opener in Beckley By July 7, 2021 - 9:16 pm BECKLEY, W.Va. Best Virginia passed the first test on their pre-TBT schedule with ease, defeating Southern West Virginia Elite 127-122 in an exhibition game at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. Best Virginia led 115-63 when the clock was stopped with four minutes left to simulate the ‘Elam Ending’. The score reset with Best Virginia trailing 119-115. After allowing an initial three-pointer, Best Virginia scored the final ten points to close out the game. “Probably our best defensive possession (in the Elam Ending) was the first one and they hit a three,” said Best Virginia head coach James Long. “You play good defense but it was better offense. They understand now the magnitude of each possession. And the flow going into the Elam Ending, it was good to get that situation for our team.”

The team of WVU alumni, Best Virginia, is slated to participate in The Basketball Tournament, branded at TBT, which will start in mid-July. The MEC alumni team, Underground Kings, are also hopeful that they will take part in the million-dollar, 64-team, single-elimination tournament. The Mountain East Conference is a very respectable conference, Chase Harler, a player on Best Virginia, said. The Ohio Valley has witnessed great players come through MEC. I can still remember sold out crowds between West Liberty and Wheeling Jesuit. Underground Kings will give us a great matchup and get us ready for the TBT.

Volunteers Make Wheeling Shine | News, Sports, Jobs

Volunteers Make Wheeling Shine May 4, 2021 If Wheeling is serious about marketing itself as a low-cost, low-crime, family friendly location for remote workers to move and live, then volunteer-based community events such as the Make Wheeling Shine effort that took place this past Saturday are critical in ensuring the city presents itself well. About 100 volunteers in Wheeling came out Saturday to clean up playgrounds and other areas from a long winter of litter and other assorted debris. They collected hundreds of bags of trash to be taken to the landfill. Groups such as Generation Wheeling and the Wheeling YWCA brought volunteers to take part. There also were Wheeling Park High School students and other residents involved.
