Duncan Kirkwood, a former 1st lieutenant in the Alabama National Guard, will present a free online resilience training workshop for teenagers across the state at 1:30 p.m. on May 20. He is the author of “Rerouting: Resilience Tools and Tactics.” Local McDonald’s restaurants owned by the Stoltz family purchased 200 copies of the book, which will be distributed to WPHS students. Some copies will be kept at the school for reference by future students.

Volunteers Make Wheeling Shine May 4, 2021 If Wheeling is serious about marketing itself as a low-cost, low-crime, family friendly location for remote workers to move and live, then volunteer-based community events such as the Make Wheeling Shine effort that took place this past Saturday are critical in ensuring the city presents itself well. About 100 volunteers in Wheeling came out Saturday to clean up playgrounds and other areas from a long winter of litter and other assorted debris. They collected hundreds of bags of trash to be taken to the landfill. Groups such as Generation Wheeling and the Wheeling YWCA brought volunteers to take part. There also were Wheeling Park High School students and other residents involved.

File Photo by Eric Ayres WHEELING Passing three quarters through the current fiscal year, the city of Wheeling remains on solid ground with its finances, despite a COVID-related shortfall in revenues that is approaching a half-million dollars. Members of the Finance Committee of Wheeling City Council recently reviewed the city’s March financial report, which marked the completion of the third quarter of the current fiscal year that started in the midst of the pandemic in July 2020. Wheeling City Manager Robert Herron said revenues for last month alone were noticeably down compared to last year. “Revenues for the month of March were $2,632,000,” Herron said, noting that city revenues for March of 2020 came in at around $2,764,000. “So it’s about $140,000 less than last year at the same time.”
