In 2021, women have been in the spotlight with Kamala Harris becoming US Vice President, Samia Suluhu now Tanzania President and for the first time in decades two women were nominated to the Oscar Awards and one carried the Best Director category.
Tanzanian film director, producer and writer, Seko Shamte, is also putting her passion, talent and potential into building a more gender-equal world.
Shamte has directed films and documentaries including,
Mkwawa: Shujaa wa Mashujaa Hehe hero,
Team Tanzania,
Home Coming and
Binti.

A Florida teen is accused of rigging a homecoming queen election, with her mother s help, and she is being charged as an adult. The girl, who just turned 18, and her mother, face multiple felony charges from the October homecoming vote at Tate High School in Pensacola. Here’s how it went down, according to investigators: the teen’s mother was an assistant principal at an elementary school in the same county, so she accessed the school district’s internal system to cast fraudulent votes for her daughter so that she would win.
Problem is, there were 117 votes from the same IP address within a short period of time. That’s when investigators found evidence of unauthorized access to the system linked to the mother’s cellphone and computers at her home. Ultimately, there were 246 votes cast for homecoming court from those devices.
Navalayo grew up in a military family and moved around a lot. Sports particularly running are in her blood. After finishing her studies, she created Enda Sportswear with the mission to highlight the benefits of running in Kenya and to make it cool.

The TV executive, best known for directing and producing some of Mzansi’s biggest reality shows, has been given the nod at the South African Film and Television Awards.
Three of the reality shows he’s been part of, including
Lebo M: Home Coming and
Somizi and Mohale: The Union, have been nominated at the Saftas.
He took to social media to share the good news.
“I’ve produced three Safta-nominated reality shows. Thank God for His endless blessings. Thank you all for the love,” he said.
