THE HOUSE Committee on Ways and Means said its priorities on resuming session Monday include grappling with out-of-control pension liabilities for military and uniformed personnel (MUP).
In a statement Saturday, Committee Chairman Jose Ma. Clemente S. Salceda said: âMUP pension reform will be painful but crucial. Itâs some pain now or very big pain in the future. The unfunded pension liabilities, according to the GSIS, amount to some P9.6 trillion based on 2019 data. Itâs a serious threat to our economic prospects in the long term.â
Pension reform proposals are contained in House Bill No. 9271, or the Fiscal Framework for Military and Uniformed Personnel (MUP) Pensions.

Published May 16, 2021 3:51pm House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez on Sunday said he will refer the impeachment complaint against Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Victor Leonen to the House Committee on Justice within three session days. Romualdez said the House Committee on Rules, which he chairs, will discuss the referral of the impeachment complaint against Leonen, who previously said Congress should not spend its time attending to false issues. “Last March 25, Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco transmitted the impeachment complaint filed by Mr. Edwin M. Cordevilla and endorsed by Ilocos Sur 2nd District Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba to our committee. We will act on it and include it in the order of business,” Romualdez said in a statement.
