Anglers say the future of a reservoir at a popular Whitehaven beauty spot is under threat because of silt pollution – and they have pointed the finger of blame at a housing developer. Haig Angling Club said they feared losing Mirehouse Ponds if silt from Story Homes’ Edgehill Park development continued to enter the water. Fish Legal, a legal group representing anglers, said construction on the site started before a plan to reduce environmental impacts was submitted to Copeland Council. A statement from the legal group claimed a construction environment management plan (CEMP), referred to extensively in the environmental statement produced by the developer and a condition of the development going ahead, “was never produced”.
The street names have been revealed for the latest development to be built at Edgehill Park in Whitehaven. The proposed street names for the estate built by Story Homes are: Pollard Way, Hope Drive, Mayflower Lane, Grace Drive and Fame Lane. The name Pollard Way was put forward by the developer as a tribute to a colleague from Story Homes who managed the early phases of the site and has since passed away. The other names are from an historic list of shipping working out of Whitehaven. The new street names were put before members of Whitehaven Town Council at a meeting held last week.

Story Homes has received the blessing of the borough council’s planning panel for a third phase of expansion at the Edgehill Park development. The company submitted the application in November 2020 and as anticipated received the verdict at the council’s planning panel on Wednesday. Senior Development Planner, David Hayward, said: “We are delighted that the Copeland Borough Council’s Planning Panel has granted approval for a third phase of homes at Edgehill Park, a development that has been popular with our customers to date.
