Obetz man admits killing innocent man in encounter at Grove City motel

An Obetz man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years for a fatal shooting one year ago at a Grove City motel. Robert A. Perez III, who turns 22 on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to murder in the death of 41-year-old Derrick Schneider, whose body was found in the doorway of a room at the Motel 6 in the 1900 block of Stringtown Road. Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Jaiza Page gave him the mandatory sentence for murder under Ohio law, and prosecutors dropped a gun specification that would have added three years to the sentence as part of a plea agreement.

Autopsy reveals woman s death on South Side of Columbus was from gunshot

A maintenance worker called 911 at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday after finding Felecia Lane unresponsive inside her residence at the Columbus Park apartments off Alum Creek Drive. First-responders to the apartment in the 2100 block of Winslow Drive pronounced Lane dead at 2:20 p.m., and the circumstances at the scene led police to believe Lane s death was suspicious. Detectives later determined through their investigation that Lane s death was a homicide, marking the 40th homicide committed in Columbus in 2021. Investigators did not initially specify the manner of Lane s death, and an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday. No information about a suspect has been released. It is also unclear how long Lane had been dead before her body was found.

Columbus homicide detectives investigate death of woman on South Side

Columbus homicide detectives have identified a woman whose body was discovered Tuesday afternoon by a maintenance worker in a South Side apartment unit. Felecia Lane, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene about five minutes after police and Columbus fire medics were called at 2:15 p.m. to her apartment in the 2100 block of Winslow Drive in the Columbus Park apartments off Alum Creek Drive.  The circumstances at the scene led police to believe Lane s death was suspicious in nature, and homicide detectives were notified and responded. Detectives have since ruled her death as a homicide, said Sgt. James Marable. Police have not released information about the manner of Lane s death, nor whether a suspect has been identified. It is also unclear how long she had been dead before her body was found.

Missing woman s body found in car at East Side apartment complex

A Columbus police detective looking for a missing person Monday afternoon found her  dead in a car parked at an apartment complex on the city s East Side. The Columbus police Homicide Unit reports that the death of Infhon e Edwards, 27, was a homicide. Her death is the 158th homicide this year.  Her body was found just after 2 p.m. in a car parked in the 2000 block of Winslow Drive at the Columbus Park Apartments complex, located off the west side of Alum Creek Drive north of Refugee Road.  Edwards cause of death is unknown at this time, and no suspect has been identified, according to a police release.
