As Winchester Public Schools prepare for April vacation, the town s Health Department alerted the community on April 15 about an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases.
According to the April 15 data shared by the state, Winchester remained in the yellow zone for infection rate, but numbers were trending higher.
Overall, 71 cases were reported over the past two weeks, giving the town a 2.13 positive percentage rate. The rate per 100,000 was 21.8 and the total case count was 1,235. We have an alarming increase in our positivity rate recently with social gatherings and household spread as key contributors, the town s Health Department wrote on the town s Twitter account. Now is not the time to take COVID lightly: it is still here and circulating.

The town of Winchester continues to be in the yellow zone for infectious rate of COVID-19, but the overall numbers are sliding, according to state data released on Feb. 18.
Over the past 14 days, the average daily incidence rate was 24.7 while the while the percent positivity was 1.66. Both numbers showed a lowering trend from the prior week, following statewide trends.
In that same period, 5,296 tests were taken in Winchester with just 88 coming back positive.
According to the town s dashboard, Winchester had 27 confirmed active cases as of Feb. 15. There were 1,017 overall recovered cases and 15 deaths.
Winchester Public Schools also reported a steady decline with just seven active confirmed cases. Overall, there have been 215 total recovered cases.
