Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], February 22 (ANI): The four-day long Mahananda Bird Festival kicked off at Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary in Sukna on Saturday evening aiming to create awareness about the different species of birds in the region and their documentation.
Around 18 birdwatchers, seven ornithologists, representatives of organisations which work for wildlife conservation and forest department officials attended the festival. The purpose of the festival is to record the diverse species of birds, document biodiversity, and create public awareness. Different avian species are found there and the sanctuary houses a wide range of birds. More than 250 avian species are found here. We are planning to organise a similar festival in south Bengal, said Vinod Kumar Yadav, the principal chief conservator of forests and wildlife.
Ranchi: After 10 months of closure, passenger trains will resume operations from the Ranchi railway division from January 2 onwards, a statement issued by the South Eastern Railways (SER) said on Thursday.
The statement said 10 trains Ranchi-Dumka special, Tatanagar-Hatia-Tatanagar MEMU, Ranchi-Tori-Ranchi MEMU, Ranchi-Lohardaga-Ranchi MEMU (three trains), Kharagpur-Ranchi-Kharagpur special, Adra-Barkakana-Adra MEMU, Hatia-Rourkela Passenger and Hatia-Tatanagar-Hatia passenger will ply from from Ranchi, Hatia and Adra railway stations.
The passenger train services were shut since March 2020 to comply with the nationwide lockdown norms. Though the railways introduced special trains and festival special trains since July, normal passenger train services remained grounded.

On December 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the New Bhaupur-New Khurja section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) in Uttar Pradesh a 351-km section, built at a cost of Rs 5,750 crore. The full stretch of the Eastern DFC will run from Ludhiana to Kolkata, covering a total of 1,800 km, and is expected to be operational by next year.
