Squeezed between a busy hotel district and the New Delhi Railway station, Paharganj slums in India ’s capital barely reflects a city that was a Covid-19 hotspot just weeks ago. Trash vendors wander through the settlements, children play barefoot in the streets and people socialise until late at night. All without wearing face masks.
This is pretty recent, however. In May, when New Delhi was recording over 25,000 cases and 500 deaths nearly every day, the shanties in Paharganj made sure the virus was kept out.

For Yuktha, the
Rubik Cube journey began when her parents, Kamal Vijay and Vidya Lakshmi, sent her for tuition to learn the basics of the puzzle two years ago.
“I reluctantly joined the tuition at
Bangarpet for one week. Later, I honed my skills through practice. It helps me keep my mind sharp,’’ says Yuktha.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala recorded an average voter turnout of 73.58% in the legislative assembly election held on Tuesday. In the previous assembly election in 2016, the voter turnout was 77.35%.
A 60-year-old man collapsed and died during an LDF-UDF clash at Pathiyankara near Haripad in Alappuzha district. The deceased was identified as Sharngadharan of Meenatheril, Ward 7 at Thrikunnapuzha. Police said he collapsed when LDF activists attacked the house of a Congress activist near his house. The body was shifted to Alappuzha Medical College.
