Subscriber only A young Brisbane ex-privately schoolboy coward punched a man on a date with his female friend at a popular nightclub before savagely bashing him with no provocation, a court has heard. Former Iona College student Kalum Jai Gulliver-Brown, 21, of Lota, pleaded guilty in Wynnum Magistrates Court on Thursday to a single charge of assault occasioning bodily harm in a public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance. The court heard the assault occurred at Fridays nightclub in Brisbane CBD in the early hours of November 22 last year. The victim was on a date with a friend of Gulliver-Brown and was known socially to the defendant and had entered the nightclub about midnight, the same time as Gulliver-Brown and his friends.

Subscriber only The incident that sparked an appalling brawl at a junior football match in Wynnum has been revealed, as detectives continue to investigate. According to police, investigations suggest the initial assault was unprovoked and took place when 35-year-old Josh Jones was pushed down a set of stairs, accidentally knocking over a 59-year-old woman as he fell. Police say Mr Jones attempted to remove himself from the situation by walking onto the sports ground, however the altercation continued and more people became involved. Detective Inspector Stephen Hollands from the Bayside Patrol Group said the extensive investigations are ongoing.

Mr Jones suffered serious injuries during the fight at an Under-13s Division 1 game between Wynnum Manly and Logan Brothers at Kitchener Park in Wynnum on Sunday. The footage shows a fight between rival fans spill from the grandstands onto the playing field. The fight involves up to 20 adults with some children coming close to the violence. Spectators are heard screaming from the grandstand, with one woman shouting This is f king bulls t and another heard exclaiming they started it .
