Readers criticise delays to £2 8m Moonrakers junction roadworks

Delayed £2 8m Moonrakers works anger motorists and business owners

MONTHS of delays to work which will transform the Moonrakers junction are frustrating business owners, neighbours and commuters. The £2.8 million project started in July but hiccups like the discovery of underground pipes pushed back the completion date. This caused customers for takeaways like Mr Cod and Sammy s Kebab and Burger House to avoid the area as congestion now often tails back to where the road merges with the A4311. Chippy owner Mohammad Saleem said: It used to be great, with 60 customers a day, but it s gone downhill. we get no customers during the day any more and maybe 10 in the evenings.

Orchid House rated Good after told to make improvements by CQC

Orchid House in Whitworth Road was upgraded for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The unannounced inspection was carried out by the Care Quality Commission in March to look at the overall quality of the service.  The care home was providing personal care and support for six adults with learning disabilities and autism at the time of the inspection.  The report reveals people using the service felt safe, with staff receiving the right training to enable them to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse.  One person’s relative said residents are “perfectly safe”, adding: “Every other day they sent photos or texts telling us what they are doing, whether they are well or unwell.”

Thames Avenue closed by police after assault

The road was shut by police after the assault at around 9.15am. A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: We were called to a report of an assault on Thames Avenue this morning at approximately 9.15am. One man was taken to Great Western Hospital but is being transferred to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with a life-threatening head injury. Our investigation is at a very early stage but the two men involved are understood to be known to each other and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public. A cordon was set up on Thames Avenue while our enquiries were carried out. No arrests have been made at this stage.
