Mumbai, April 16 : A prominent Maharashtra legal luminary has petitioned the Centre to declare the Remdesivir medicine - currently in huge demand owing to the Covid-19 pandemic - as a life-saving medicine with controlled pricing to prevent blackmarketing and corruption.
Remdesivir is manufactured by a handful of companies under brand names like Cipremi (Cipla), Covifar (Hetero), Desrem (Mylon), Remdac (Zydus), Redyx (Dr. Reddy s).
In a plea to the Central Government which controls the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), a statutory authority under the Drugs Price Control Order (DPCO), Mumbai Barrister Vinod Tiwari on Thursday demanded a high-level investigation into the artificial scarcity, hoarding, blackmarketing and misuse of the drug which could run into a racket of over Rs 25,000-crore under the nose of the NPPA, in the past ten months since the drug

Mumbai, April 15 : Though a year has passed since the ghoulish mob-lynching of two Sadhus and their driver in Palghar district in Maharashtra, the politically sensitive case is still very much alive in public memory and keeps popping into headlines at frequent intervals.
The two Sadhus - Kalpavrikshagiri Maharaj (70) and his assistant Sushilgiri Maharaj (35) - and their driver Nilesh Telgade (30) were waylaid by an angry mob of tribals and villagers and were brutally lynched to death on the night of April 15-16, 2020.

Mumbai, April 8 : With the state reportedly left with barely one and half day s doses, a vaccine war has been raging between Maharashtra and the Centre in the past couple of days with state Health Minister Rajesh Tope now on Thursday comparing the grim situation in the state vis-a-vis Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
Hours after Tope on Wednesday said that the state had only 3 days doses of the Covid vaccines in stock, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan hit back, virtually blaming Maharashtra for the current spread of the pandemic across the country.
