The contest will mark Tech’s third appearance in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game series. The Hokies previously played Alabama in 2009 and 2013. The 2025 season opener will mark Tech’s first meeting with South Carolina since 1991.

South Carolina, Virginia Tech to play in 2025 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game Photo: Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Virginia Tech Hokies will play in the 2025 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl officially announced on Friday. The game will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., on Sunday, Aug. 31 or Monday, Sept. 1, 2025. The game will be televised by either ESPN or ABC. “The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game has often become a showcase for the ACC and the SEC to face off in a high-profile contest to start the season,” said Bob Somers, Peach Bowl, Inc. chairman. “This matchup looks to continue that tradition and renew an old rivalry between two historic programs.”

(WWBT) - Virginia Tech quarterback Hendon Hooker announced on Thursday that he would be entering the transfer portal following his graduation in December. Hooker broke the news on social media. “This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Hooker wrote on his post. “Being a Hokie has been an unforgettable experience.” Hooker took over for an injured Ryan Willis in 2019 and led Virginia Tech to victories in his first six starts. He started 15 games during the last two years for the Hokies. In eight contests this season, Hooker threw for 1,339 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He also found the endzone nine times on the ground.
