BLACKSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - Justin Fuente isnât going anywhere, at least not for another year.
Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said that Fuente âshould and will remainâ the Hokiesâ head football coach during a Zoom press conference on Tuesday afternoon. The two met on Monday for about four hours and discussed several areas of the program, including recruiting, COVID-19 and Fuenteâs desire to be in Blacksburg. Babcock, who said he had his mind pretty much made up before that meeting, liked what he heard.

Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock confirmed Tuesday that head coach Justin Fuente will return next season. We felt like this is the most likely successful path, Babcock said, according to ESPN s Andrea Adelson, adding that the two men had a four-hour meeting Monday. I feel good about it. I m paid to do what is best, not what it is easiest or meant to pacify others.
The Hokies concluded their 5-6 campaign with a 33-15 win over in-state rival Virginia. It s the first time the team posted a losing record in the regular season since 1992, and there was speculation that Fuente could be fired.
