The Mt View Art Guild is sponsoring an Art in the Park event Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Washington Street Park (Pickin’ Park) which is the street behind the Courthouse square.
Members of the Guild will be displaying, selling and demonstrating a wide variety of artistic creations such as, paintings, pottery, woodworking, jewelry, mosaic, various handmade items, and more.
By sponsoring Art in the Park, the Mt View Art Guild hopes to bring people together through art as well as showcase the talents of our many Area artisans.
Artists and craftspeople wishing to join the Guild and participate in Art in the Park events, or for more information, please call; 870-746-5506 or 870-213-8581.
Police Chief David Gilbo is working on a proposed ordinance that would allow him to make a "lawful arrest" of people using bicycles in the city's parks.
The final design for the Washington Street Park, known as “Hot Corner Mural Park,” was approved by commissioners on Tuesday.
The site for this park is on the corner of Washington and Lumpkin streets, and in its current form, is a parking lot approximately the size of a basketball court. When the project is complete, it will be a green celebration of the Hot Corner, the historically black business district in downtown Athens.
Facing the park will be the Costa Building, home to the Hot Corner Mural, “Hot Corner: An Athens Legacy.” This mural depicts Black community members, including Monroe “Pink” Morton, barber Homer Wilson, and several black musicians.
