Suspect in crash that killed Chandler police officer indicted by grand jury
25-year-old Jonathon Altland is facing 32 charges, including first-degree murder, following a police chase on April 29 that ended with a crash on April 30, which killed Chandler police officer Christopher Farrar and injured another officer with the Gilbert Police Department.
PHOENIX - The man accused of killing a Chandler police officer and badly hurting a Gilbert officer has been indicted by a grand jury in Maricopa County.

Gilbert officer recovering after getting hit by car during pursuit
GILBERT, Ariz. - A Gilbert Police officer continues to recover after he was severely injured last week during a
violent pursuit that resulted in the death of a Chandler police officer.
Officer Rico Aranda, 27, sustained a serious head injury after he was hit by a suspect driving a stolen car on April 29.
Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb said the pursuit began when a deputy tried to pull over a speeding vehicle and reported he d been shot at.
A recent statement from the Arizona Department of Water Resources and Central Arizona Project is enough to make many reaching for a glass of water â or for those in the W.C. Fields camp, perhaps something stronger.
âAs the drought in the Colorado River Basin extends beyond its 20th year, we anticipate the first-ever shortage declaration on the Colorado River. The shortage will result in a substantial cut to Arizonaâs share of the river, with reductions falling largely to central Arizona agricultural users,â read the April 2 statement.
âThese reductions are painful, but we are prepared.â
Ditto, said the City of Mesa.
The community will hold a candlelight vigil in honor of fallen Chandler Police Officer Christopher Farrar at Compass Church two days after he was fatally shot and a Gilbert officer was critically injured in the line of duty.
An announcement on the Compass Christian Church Facebook page said the community prayed for the family of Farrar and honored his sacrifice at the church in Chandler on Saturday evening.
The announcement also said Farrar and his family have been longtime members of the church and that Farrar volunteered on the church s security team.
Farrar died and Gilbert officer Rico Aranda was hospitalized in critical condition after a pursuit ended in a shootout at a Gilbert car dealership late Thursday evening, according to officials.

CHANDLER, Ariz. A candlelight vigil has been planned for fallen Chandler Police Officer Christopher Farrar after the 18-year veteran of the department was struck and killed by a suspect in a stolen vehicle following a lengthy pursuit early Friday morning.
The vigil planned by Compass Christian Church in Chandler will be held on Saturday, May 1 at 7 p.m. on the campus of the church, located at 1825 South Alma School Road. The public is invited to attend.
