Jaiprakash Power Ventures has resumed operations at 400 MW Vishnuprayag Hydro Electric Project in Uttarakhand on 11 March 2021.
On 8 February 2021, Jaiprakash Power Ventures declared a force majeure event leading to the closure of its power generation at the company s 400 MW (mega-watt) Vishnuprayag Hydro Electric Project (HEP) due to river water gushing into the Tail Race Tunnel of the project due to the unfortunate tragedy in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
Disaster struck Uttarakhand s Chamoli district on 7 February 2021 in the form of an avalanche and deluge, after a portion of the Nanda Devi glacier broke off. The sudden flood triggered large-scale devastation in the high mountain areas.

A file picture of the rescue operations underway near Tapovan Tunnel. - PTI× Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JPVL) resumed operations at its 400MW Vishnuprayag hydroelectric project, the company said on Friday.
Based in Chamoli, Himachal Pradesh, the plant had been shut down since February 7 after river water gushed into its tailrace tunnel following a glacial outburst that severely damaged the 520MW NTPC Tapovan Vishnugad project and the 13.2MW Rishi Ganga project.
“The company is pleased to announce that after carrying out extensive cleaning of the Tail Race Tunnel of the project and other associated systems and thorough checking of all elements of the project, we have resumed operations,” JPVL said in its statement.

New Delhi, Feb 8 : The massive avalanche in Chamoli, Uttarakhand has led to the closure of power generation at Jaiprakash Power Venture Ltd 400 MW Vishnuprayag Hydro Electric Project.
In a regulatory filing, Jaiprakash Power said it is confident that the project will resume operations in a few days after the completion of the cleaning process and the checking of all aspects.
The project s barrage is over Alaknanda River, and its Tail Race Tunnel discharging water is in the river Dhauli Ganga. River water gushed in through the Tail Race Tunnel of the project bringing with it the slush, the filing said.
