Astor School Modernization Finished   Astoria School District and contractor Skanska jointly announced the completion of new construction and modernization at John Jacob Astor Elementary in Astoria. The school’s exterior served as the backdrop of the well-known and beloved 1990 action comedy film, ‘Kindergarten Cop,’ which starred Arnold Schwarzeneggar. “The expansion and modernization of Astor Elementary are now complete with our particular focus on preserving the history of the school,” said Astoria School District Superintendent Craig Hoppes. “In its new design, we’ve made way for a flexible multipurpose area and new classrooms as well as upgraded safety and security for current and future students. It’s been exciting to watch the rapid construction happen and to work with partners who are as budget-conscious as we are.”
