Lesleigh Taylor Wins The Gates Scholarship
Lesleigh Taylor has been selected as one of 300 seniors from around the country to receive The Gates Scholarship. The award is highly competitive; less than two percent of the thousands who make the semi-final round are chosen. The Gates Scholarship covers the entire cost of college not covered by other financial aid, scholarships or grants.
Lesleigh will graduate from the Duncanville High School Collegiate Academy with her diploma and an associate degree from Mountain View College. During her high school career, Lesleigh was Youth and Government vice president, vice president of Student Council and secretary for the National Honor Society.

Like many high school seniors who are heading to college in the fall, Akayla Brown recently had an impactful decision to make about where she would attend college.
The Philadelphia Tribunereported that the highly sought-after Gates Scholar decided her official college pick would be Howard University. Among many requirements of the highly selective Gates Scholarship, applicants who are minority high school seniors must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. The Gates Scholarship website said that the scholarship is awarded to 300 student leaders yearly, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential. The ideal candidate is described as someone who is in the top 10% of his or her graduating class.

Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky senior Christine Belance (’21, Fairdale HS) has received the competitive Gates Scholarship, a program funding only 300 students per year for the full cost of attendance not already covered by other financial aid.
The Gates Scholarship launched in 2017, and through it, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation continues its long-standing commitment helping outstanding minority students from low-income backgrounds realize their maximum potential.
This prestigious scholarship program is based on evidence that by eliminating the financial barriers to college, a last-dollar scholarship can enable high-potential, low-income minority students excel in coursework, graduate college, and continue to be leaders throughout their lives.

Akayla Brown, the 18-year-old, highly sought after Bodie High School senior, went viral after receiving a prestigious scholarship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A Southwest Philadelphia original, Brown applied to more than 25 universities, including several HBCUs and Ivy League schools. And after much deliberation with herself, family members, and friends, Brown has chosen Howard University as the school of choice she will be attending in the fall.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT) Twiggs County School District is celebrating its first female student selected for the Gates Scholarship.
Twiggs County High School senior Aylah Birks is one of the 300 nationwide winners of the scholarship that honors minority student leaders from low-income households.
The Gates Scholarship (TGS) helps cover the full cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, room, board, books, transportation and other personal expenses.
Birks says the scholarship honor means a lot to her and her family.
“Taking that burden off of my family is going to ease their worries and their stress,” says Birks.
