JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT) Twiggs County School District is celebrating its first female student selected for the Gates Scholarship.
Twiggs County High School senior Aylah Birks is one of the 300 nationwide winners of the scholarship that honors minority student leaders from low-income households.
The Gates Scholarship (TGS) helps cover the full cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, room, board, books, transportation and other personal expenses.
Birks says the scholarship honor means a lot to her and her family.
“Taking that burden off of my family is going to ease their worries and their stress,” says Birks.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ga. In March, we first reported on Twiggs County senior, Aylah Birks, who was accepted into over 80 colleges with more than $2.2 million in scholarship offers.
She’s now been accepted into over 100 colleges with more than $4.5 million in scholarship offers, but one of them stands out above the rest.
“Aylah was eager to learn; she wanted to learn,” said her mother, Cindy Curry Birks.

JEFFERSONVILLE, GA The future is fantastically bright and also debt-free for Aylah Birks, a senior at Twiggs County High School in Georgia.
Birks, who will graduate this spring with a 4.0 grade point average, was not only accepted to 84 colleges. She also was awarded more than $2.2 million in scholarships, according to a report by 11 Alive.
It s an achievement Birks can add to her already impressive resume. The teen is also a finalist for the Gates Scholarship and is a published author.
