One Year Ago: My Experience Riding with the Krewe of Centaur

One Year Ago: My Experience Riding with the Krewe of Centaur Hard to believe we won t be experiencing Mardin Gras parades this year. I don t know about you, but for me, this was my last life experience prior to COVID-19. Last February, we were right in the heart of Mardi Gras season, and COVID-19 seemed more like a joke at that time, rather than a forever life-altering pandemic. Surely none of us expected anything as serious as we received just a few short weeks later. Yet, here we are, one year later. I certainly miss Mardi Gras this season, and my Facebook memories rubbed it in quite a bit today. It did make me smile quite a bit re-living last year s awesome ride, playing music atop the parade s title-sponsor float. This was one year ago, written shortly after my first official ride with the Mighty Krewe of Centaur.

Guardians of the Geese | Our State

Guardians of the Geese Gaddy’s Goose Pond drew thousands of Canada geese and people from around the world to Ansonville. by Jeremy Markovich Hazel Gaddy and her husband, Lockhart, fed geese around their pond in 1949. After the Gaddys died, the geese stopped coming to the pond, but they still fly over it on their way to the nearby Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge. Geese will fly a long way for a good meal. For decades, thousands of them showed up just south of Ansonville every winter, where Lockhart Gaddy had planted wheat and corn for them. This was a change for Gaddy, who had previously hunted geese. During the first year, 1934, nine geese spent the winter on his one-acre pond. By 1952, Gaddy had made the pond 10 times larger. By then, word was out in the bird community, and 10,000 James Bay Canada geese showed up on his farm.
