The home improvement projects our readers did in quarantine

Atlanta Magazine The home improvement projects our readers did in quarantine Here are just a few of the projects gave readers joy in the midst of this chaotic year Illustration by Babeth Lafon It started with setting up a home office, then progressed to cleaning out the closets. Pretty soon, we were repainting that spare bedroom and planting a garden. By midsummer, we were adding a deck or renovating the kitchen. Lumber became as precious as alcohol wipes. This has been a year for home improvements. Last winter, we launched our Yearbook to salute new shops and products. In 2020, we’re dedicating it to readers’ renovation plans. Here are 30+ virtual kid-friendly Pennsylvania Farm Show presentations

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is always a great learning opportunity for our area’s youth. There’s nothing like seeing livestock up close, being able to ask farmers questions and experiencing displays like the butterfly tent. Things look a bit different this year, as the Farm Show is virtual. But that doesn’t mean the opportunities for learning stop. While all Farm Show presentations are family-friendly, a few are created with young viewers especially in mind. Here are Farm Show events geared toward young viewers, running today through Saturday, when the Farm Show concludes. To watch, visit the Pennsylvania Farm Show Facebook page at facebook.com/PAFarmShow or tune into the Pennsylvania Cable Network, unless otherwise noted.

Children describe their wishes for Athens through art

ATHENS-Students who wish to share Christmas with friends and family, to have a litter free community and to see people acting nice and friendly were the top winners in a recent Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission art contest.   The Youth Commission, comprised of high school students, conducts a reoccurring art contest for city and county students based on various themes. Youth Commissioners vote on first place and choose which pieces are displayed in the Art Corner at City Hall.   Since the community-wide theme for Christmas events this year was “My Christmas Wish,” the Youth Commission decided the art theme would be “My Wish for Athens.” Youth Commissioners asked students to create art pieces that share their hopes and wishes for Athens. Entries did not have to include a holiday theme.
