Weston High School s Alpine ski team had an outstanding season this winter, with both the girls and boys skiing consistently well and becoming Mass. Bay West league champions. It is the first time a school has achieved this dual, simultaneous success, a feat even more impressive considering this is the second consecutive year that the boys have won the league.
The ski season of 2020-21 will be remembered as “the masked one. The pandemic meant that not only was it harder to get practice slots at the local mountains, but no spectators were allowed at races, the races were single run events, and there was no official JV team racing.

Last weekend, after taking a Saturday walk up to Poet’s Seat Tower, I decided I had to hike to a higher vantage to truly take in the view. The next day was forecast to be sunny and 70, so my girlfriend Vanessa and I decided to hike to the stone fire tower on Mount Massamet in Shelburne. We opted for the less-strenuous Ridge Trail, which starts from the High Ledges Audubon Sanctuary, and crosses some private land before it links up with the final stretch of the road to the tower.
With Vermont under quarantine, N.Y. skiers stayed close to home
People stuck to nearby resorts for recreation, just like in the summer
