By opening up Android Auto for third-party developers, Google essentially allowed software makers to release alternatives even to its own apps, including Google Maps, which right now continues to be the preferred navigation solution for most people out there.
This week, Sygic is joining the party with its very own navigation solution that’s finally available for everybody on Android Auto. After rolling out a beta last year, Sygic’s GPS Navigation now comes with Android Auto support, offering a fully-featured experience right on the car’s head unit.

First and foremost, it’s the new eco-friendly routes that we told you about yesterday and which allow Google Maps to provide users with more fuel-efficient navigation. In other words, Google Maps will now try to determine the fuel consumption for every route and then suggest the most efficient one based on factors like road incline and traffic congestion.
This will be the default route calculation model going forward, but users can switch back to the fastest route from the settings screen.
This feature will launch in the United States first, with both Android and iOS to get it at a later time this year.
Google has recently updated Google Maps with support for a full dark mode, and without a doubt, this is a massive update for those who use the navigation app on their phones while driving.
